JOHN J. SAHM

BALLTOWN, Iowa -- John J. "Jack" Sahm, 55, 421 Horseshoe Road, Balltown, died at 9 p.m. Friday, June 24, 1994, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Balltown, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mr. Sahm worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 30 years until his retirement.

He was born on Nov. 22, 1938, at Turkey River, son of Joseph B. and Mildred (Gassman) Sahm. He married Lillian "Lillie" Lenstra on June 9, 1962, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He served in the Army Reserves for a number of years. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Balltown, John Deere Retirees and UAW Local 94. He was also a member of the Balltown Town Council for the past 28 years and a founder and charter member of the River Trails Snowmobile Club.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian "Lillie" Sahm, of Balltown; two daughters, Mrs. Randy (Katie) Link, of Holy Cross, and Mrs. Doug (Carol) Langel, of New Vienna; three sons, Bob and (and Gayle) Sahm, of Bankston, and Mike Sahm and Ron "Tank" Sahm, both of Balltown; three granddaughters: Emily, Ashley and Molly Link, all of Holy Cross; three grandson, Miles and Dillon Langel, both of new Vienna, and Travis Sahm, of Bankston; his father, Joseph B. (and Helen) Sahm, of Dubuque; a sister, Mrs. Cletus (Joanne) Steger, of Balltown; two brothers, Jerry (and Bonnie) Sahm, of Balltown, and Eugene "Butch" Sahm, of Junction City, Kan,.; a stepsister, Mrs. Willy (Joyce) Stoffel, of Dubuque; and two stepbrothers, Don (and Dee) Hansen, of Dubuque, and Jim(and Judy) Hansen, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred (Gassman) Sahm.

A John J. "Jack" Sahm Memorial Fund has been established.
