Long Time Rural Carrier, 80, Ill Two Months
Frank J. Noel, 80, a rural mail carrier in Mosalem township for many years and the father of Arnold A. Noel, assistant secretary of the Dubuque chamber of commerce, died at 5:45 Saturday afternoon at the family home, 1178 Cleveland avenue, after an illness of two months. He was a member of one of Dubuque's oldest families.
The remains are at the Hoffmann mortuary, where friends may call after 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The funeral will be held to St. Columbkille's church Tuesday morning, at a time to be announced later. Burial will be in St. Catherine's township.
Born June 7, 1866, in Massey station, Mosalem township, the son of the late Frank and Magdalena Noel, Dubuque county pioneers, he moved to Dubuque from Massey 38 years ago, and had since resided here. He was employed here by the Milwaukee railroad and also by Carr, Adams and Collier company, retiring in 1930.
A member of the Catholic church, he was an attendant of St. Columbkille's parish and a member of the Holy Name society.
On Feb. 16, 1904, he was married to Susan Hilkin at SS Peter and Paul church, Chicago.
Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Merlin (Luella) Apel, Dubuque, Mrs. Michael (Lorraine) Kemp, at home, and Mrs. Ralph (Venita) Rohrbach, Aurora, Ill.; one son, Arnold A. Noel, Dubuque; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Stoffel and Mrs. Lena Manhart, both of Dubuque, and one brother, Anton Noel, Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, on son, and two sisters.
