Narrow Escape From Death
Yesterday afternoon while George Wareham, an employee in Carr, Austin & Co.’s Sash factory, was engaged in handling lumber in the third story when his attention was called to something by a fellow workman. He turned and stepped into the hatchway through which material is elevated. Fortunately in falling he grasped the side of the hatchway and held on with a death grip until two men who were near, pulled him from his fearful position. In falling, his arm rubbed the side of the hatchway so hard that it was badly bruised. If he had fallen he would have gone a distance of fifty feet and would in all probability be crushed to death.
