THE FREE FERRY
The Ferry across the Mississippi, Messrs. Young & Whiteside, free to all persons coming to Galena from Iowa, for the purpose of trade, and returning ferried during the month of April -
272 - 2 Horses Teams
22 - One Horse Team
198- Head Cattle and Horses
739- Persons

A glance at the above will show the importance of the arrangement made between the citizens of this place and the proprietors of the above Ferry. This spirit of mutual accommodation should be cultivated. Small things may be compared with greater. Boston owes its high state of prosperity to the good roads that radiate from it in all directions. The whole of the profits of a farmer's load of produce are not all swallowed up in the expense of getting the load to market. This road-making is one great secret of the prosperity of cities, but it is one that they do not often learn readily. We understand that some complaints have been made, that the road between this place and the Ferry needs repairing. We hope all cause of reasonable complaint, if any exist, may be speedily removed.
