Mysterious Disappearance

A very mysterious and unaccountable disappearance has occurred near Centralia. In that neighborhood, near William I. Anderson’s place, resides John Moore and his family, themselves old settlors, widely known throughout the county. Sunday afternoon Mrs. Moore left the house to call upon a neighbor living but a short distance away. As it grew towards evening, and she did not return, other members of the family went over to the neighbor’s-only to find that Mrs. Moore had not been there. Search was immediately made for her, but up to noon yesterday no clue to her whereabouts had been obtained. She took with her nothing that she might have been calculating to remain away, and left behind an infant child. There is no stream in that vicinity in which she could have been drowned, nor any mineral holes thereabout into which she could have stumbled. There was no reason why she should leave home, and no indications of insanity had ever been manifested. In the midst of a well settled farming community the woman has disappeared as suddenly and completely as if she had been swallowed up by the earth in the twinkling of an eye. Conjecture is utterly at fault as to what has become of her.
