ENCOUNTERED A BEAR
~

Ben Cosley and George Beckett, two of the boldest hunters residing in West Dubuque, who are also leading members of the Dubuque Gun Club, had an experience yesterday at Swiss Valley that they will not soon forget. At least their friends will see to it that the two bold sportsmen are not given an opportunity of forgetting the experience.

Cosley and Beckett were hunting yesterday at Swiss Valley when their dog treed a black bear that was about in vicinity of a farm yard. When the two nimrods saw the vicious looking animal glaring at them from the tree top, they dropped their trusty shotguns and did “hot foot” toward Ballyclough, where they arrived almost exhausted from their long run. They explained the cause of their flight, and when they returned to the place where the bear was they found that the bear was a tame animal that had broken lose from a farm yard nearby.
