Serious Conflagration Averted By
The Prompt Arrival of the
Fire Department
~
Several dwelling houses were threatened with destruction by fire early this morning on upper Jackson Street. John Street started a fire in a summer kitchen at his home, 2924 Jackson Street, and then returned to another part of the house. Returning to the kitchen a few moments later he found it a mass of flames. The fire rapidly communicated to surrounding structures and for a while it looked as if a conflagration would occur. The prompt arrival of the fire department forestalled this. However, in a half an hour the fire was under control. The damage to surrounding houses by heat is considerable. Three wooden shed were consumed.
