Iowa State Register, October, 16,1885

Dubuque, Oct. 15 -- Special to the State Register. -- The suit of Mrs. William Neumeister against the Centennial Mutual Life Insurance Company of Burlington, Iowa, for a policy of $2,500 on the life of her deceased husband, was decided today in the District Court in favor of the plaintiff. The company refused to pay the policy on the ground that Neumeister committed suicide. The Judge charged the jury to decide in favor of the plaintiff, if they considered Neumeister to be of unsound mind when he committed the act of self-destruction, and in favor of the defendant if they considered him sane. The case has been watched with great interest by the legal fraternity here.
