Take Light Drinks

High wines and whiskies are creeping up at a fearful rate for imbibers, and they will be under the necessity of taking less frequent drinks and smaller horns, or else have their populations adulterated. Whiskey cannot now be afforded at five cents a drink or half a glass full when it is advancing every day. We heard of sales this week amounting to several hundred dollars to a retailer expecting a rise when the additional tax is levied by the next Congress. Bourbon whiskey used in the common saloons sell at $1@1.25 per gallon, and $50 dollars a barrel. Something has to be done. Customers must take smaller drinks in smaller glasses, have the whiskey adulterated with water or the saloon keepers will lose money in the future, because the juice of the corn is high and will soon be higher. High wines from which most of the whiskey is made are advancing and are now up to 72 cents a gallon.
