Railroading News
~
Give us any kind of business, but railroading in snowbanks, was the conclusion arrived at yesterday when seeing the snow piled up, mountains high, against all human efforts, Conductors Cawley, Horton, and Wolcott got out there engines and cars, yesterday morning and started out for Cedar Falls. By great exertions shoveling snow, wheels slipping on the rails, high drifts, and wind blowing furiously, they proceeded a short distance beyond Rockdale four miles out, and gave up in despair, and had to shovel their way back again, arriving at half past one o’clock. They were between that place and Independence. All along the road reports came that the snow was drifting furiously, it being useless to make any efforts clearing the track until the wind ceased blowing. Today if the wind quiets down, a large force will be put on, and the track cleared if possible.

The eastern train from Chicago due yesterday morning, has not arrived late last night. The oldest inhabitant say it was the worst storm for years.
