Dubuque Herald, July 3, 1872

POLICE NEWS – Big Bear, a strange Indian that has been staying around the city for several days, dreamt of the happy hunting grounds on Sunday night and got on a spree Monday. His vision was so obscured that there was no accounting what he would do if not restrained, and toward night Marshall Hardy was compelled to arrest and put him in the calaboose, where he remained until yesterday morning. When he was released he was quite sober and gave evidence of having his dignity much hurt and said, “Me no more stay here: go across the great river to Wisconsin.”
