The Herald, Sunday, July 10, 1869

FIRE – James B. Marble’s soap factory on Couler Avenue, near Glab’s brewery, was discovered to be on fire about eleven o’clock last Thursday night, and before the flames could be quenched sustained damage amounting to $500. One end of the building was burned to the ground before the fire could be extinguished. The fire was undoubtedly the work of incendiary as the factory was locked secure against outsiders unless they were acquainted with the place as the key was concealed. A large cauldron kettle was destroyed with a hammer or some instrument as it had a hole in the bottom when the fire was first discovered. Mr. Marble must have some secret enemy who thus attempts the destruction of his property which has no insurance upon it.
