Davenport Gazette, reprinted in the Dubuque Weekly Times, November 7, 1861.

GERMAN REGIMENT-

Col. J. P. Koch, of this city, has been commissioned as Colonel of the new German Regiment now forming in this state. A number of recruiting officers are now engaged in forming companies for this regiment, and we presume it will soon be filled. Capt. Stuhr’s company, now at Camp McClellan, is intended for the German Regiment, and another company will be here at the close of the week from Dubuque, the regiment rendezvousing here. Col. Koch is an old military officer, having been a Lieut. Col. In the old country. With his name announced as Colonel of this regiment, the Germans should rally around his standard and fill up the regiment without delay.
