SECESSION HOUSE BURNING-
On last Thursday night the house of a man named Sullivan on the road to Maquoketa some ten miles from here was burned to the ground. Sullivan enlisted in Col. Heath’s company of cavalry some time ago and was warned at the time by some of his neighbors that if he persisted in “going to the war” his house would be burned down. He paid no attention to the threats but went away with his company to the camp at Burlington, and now his house is in ashes. We don’t believe that lynch law is the best law in any case but should it transpire who this house-burner is we should not be sorry to see him dance on nothing from the end of a rope.
