James Stokes, Jr., born March 15, 1860 in Whitewater Township, he married Charlotte Parrott, she was born July 12, 1863. She emigrated from England and worked as a housekeeper. They farmed south of Farley in an area known as Cooperharbor. Sometimes referred to as the “Sand Desert” because of the sandy soil. He sold wood that he secured clearing the land for farming. James and Charlotte had eight children. Edward and James died very young; other children were, Mary Wall, Sophia Cooksley, William, Harold, Lily King and Henry.
