William V. Oldridge was born in England in 1856 and came to this country with his parents when he was three years old. Mr. Oldridge was a clerk for five years before starting his own drug store in Farley in 1882. W. V. was also a postmaster in town. One of the few Republican postmasters who retained office under the Cleveland administration.
In 1899, Mr. Oldridge sold his store stock to J. A. Barry and a short time later, moved to Dubuque. In April of 1900, he went into partnership with J. W. Jones doing a grocery business at 1265 Iowa St.
