Daniel and James O’Connell were the proprietors of the saloon and billiard parlor until Leonard Loeffelholz bought it in 1891.

Daniel O’Connell was born in Bankston on Aug. 1, 1851. He lived there until the age of 26 when he left for Colorado. Daniel was gone one year. On returning, he came to Farley, remaining until his death in August 1896. Mr. O’Connell had a daughter and a son. He was buried at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Farley.

James O’Connell was a brother to Dan and was born at Bankston Jan. 8, 1856. James came to Farley in 1877 when he was 21. He married Anna M. Schemmel on April 24, 1883. Anna lived form 1861-1953. Daniel was a postmaster for a time.

The O’Connell’s had a son Bill, who lived in Farley, and a daughter, Laura Belle (Mrs. E. N. Jeffry) of Des Moines. Son Bill was born in 1890 and died in 1977. Bill had lived in the O’Connell family home at the NE corner of 2nd St. and 4th Ave. The two story frame house was torn down after Bill’s death.
