Chester Baker was born Nov. 16, 1886, at Worthington, Iowa, the son of William and Edith Baker. He married Luella M. Cropp. Three children were born to this union-Georgia Smith, Florence Graham and John.

He managed three farms in John’s Creek area and was postmaster for 12 years in Farley. He was a member of the Methodist church, Mizpah Lodge No. 639, and Cedar Chapter No. 183 of the Eastern Star. He served in the army during World War I.
