Dubuque Daily Times, Friday, Dec 31, 1875, Dubuque, IA, Page: 7

F. L. Schubert, charged with the awful crime of incest, had his trial before Judge Hoerner on Wednesday; yesterday afternoon the Judge rendered a verdict discharging the defendant. It is claimed by Schubert that his present wife is the daughter of his former wife’s sister, while on the other hand a son of Schubert’s swears that the present Mrs. Schubert is his sister. Mrs. Schubert swears that she never knew her mother, but that her grandparents were the parents of Mr. Schubert’s first wife. (NOTE-If the reader can understand this, and trace their connection properly, he can do more than the writer can; we have a boy on each side of us to assist in keeping track of the matter, and even when thus divided among three, we confess that our knowledge of the Schubert family is considerably confused.) At any rate the defendant was discharged; but we learn that new information is to be filed against him for the same crime, and when the matter comes up again we’ll issue a double sheet supplement containing an accurate genealogical table of the house of Schubert.
