Dr. Greene and his wife and little girl drove out into the country yesterday afternoon, and about 5:40 o’clock were coming down Julien Avenue on the way home. When near Air Hill Street the straps supporting the neck yoke gave way. This allowed the tongue to fall to the ground. The carriage crowded down onto the horse and they commenced to rear and plunge. The doctor turned them in towards the gutter, thinking a telephone pole nearby would arrest their flight. But it didn’t. He was thrown out, and clinging to the line tenaciously in an effort to stop the flight of the horses, was dragged along the gutter for quite a distance finally being obliged to release his grip.

Meanwhile a sudden careening of the carriage had thrown out Mrs. Greene and the little girl, who alleged alongside the curb. The horses continued their mad run down the hill. Below the Diamond House they collided with and demolished Painter Gilmore wagon and were then captured.

Dr. and Mrs. Green and their little daughter were taken into the residence of Mr. Alphonse Mattews. All were quite painfully though not seriously injured. The Dr’s. right knee and elbow were severely scratched as a result of his dragging and his hip was a braided. His trousers and coat were unfit for further wear. Mrs. Green received several scratches and bruises on the face and a severe cut on the side of the head. The little girl’s lip was cut and her cheek bruised so that it was swollen abnormally. The suffers were getting along as well as could be expected last night and will soon be over the effects of their injuries. It was a frightful experience, and it is fortunate the results were not more serious.
