TERRIBLE ACCIDENT
~
Hugh Flynn, a Boy Aged 12, Sustains
A Compound Fracture of the
Thigh, and May Die
~
Officer Flynn’s son Hugh, 12 years old, met with a mishap yesterday. While going up Julien Avenue about noon on his way home from school he concluded to take a ride home on a farmer’s wagon going his way. In scrambling onto the rear of the wagon, his leg was caught in the spokes of a wheel, which made more than a complete revolution before the horses could be stopped. The boy was taken into Buckler’s grocery store and thence to Mercy Hospital. The surgeons found that there was a compound fracture and dislocation of and end of the thigh bone, which protruded through the flesh. It is doubtful if the boy will survive the amputation of the leg.
