The officers and directors of the Eagle Point Bridge company held a meeting yesterday afternoon and among other things opened the bide for the construction of the piers for the structure. Ten or more bids were received, all of which were within the limit or estimate of the engineer, but the board did not reward the contract. They did not decide for the reason that several of the bids were very close together on the amounts, and they will have to look over them carefully before making the reward.

It is intention now of the board to have the work hurried along, as they have been somewhat hindered in the preliminary work, but now that they are ready to begin active work they purpose to push it, and when the contractors begin on the piers, it will be with the express understanding that they be finished up by the beginning first of September. The iron and steel will be on the ground as soon as it possible to begin on the structure work. The directors want the bridge up, and for the big winter traffic which is practically cut off most of the winter.
