Robert Barrett Lockwood 1816-1895

Robert Barrett Lockwood was a native of Durham Co. England; born Feb. 29, 1816. Before coming to this country he severed as a Notary Public in London. Robert emigrated in 185. He first dwelt in Worthington, serving on the Board of Supervisors of Dubuque Co. while he lived there. Mr. Lockwood was a member of the 12th General Assembly of Iowa in 1868. By the 1870’s Robert had come to Farley where he was an active member of St. George Church for twenty years. The church records show a funeral on May 2, 1871 for Mrs. Elizabeth L. Lockwood; this being Robert’s first wife. On April 3, 1872, Mr. Lockwood married Mary A. Chapline. There were six Lockwood children; Eliza- Mrs. Wm. Pitman, of Farley; Mrs. Blair DuBois, of Vancouver, Washington; Annie P., died in March 1874; Emily B., died before her father; Bedford, lived near Dyersville, Iowa; Mountjoy, of Ardale, Iowa.

Robert Lockwood died at Allison on Aug. 20, 1895. His body was brought back to Fairview Cemetery for burial.
