Dubuque Herald, July 7, 1872

GOING TO EUROPE – Mr. F. Mengis and wife start for Europe on tonight's train. During a four months' stay on the other side of the waters they will visit Switzerland, Italy, and France. Relatives of Mr. Mengis, in Switzerland, have bequeathed him a large sum of money, the getting of which is one of the main incentives of their journey. On their return Mrs. Mengis will purchase a large stock of millinery goods in New York, and in the meanwhile her establishment in this city will be under the control of trustworthy hands. This tour will be a healthy and delightful recreation to Mr. and Mrs. Mengis, after a long and close confinement to business.
