Dubuque Herald, July 7, 1872

THE CLOCK – Alderman Robinson and Chapman and Mayor Turck, on the part of the city council, and Messrs. Geo. D. Wood, D. E. Lyon, Wm. Andrew and Dr. Asa Horr, on the part of our citizens, held a consultation on the subject of the town clock, at Dr. Horr's office, Saturday forenoon. The whole ground of expense and architectural style was thoroughly discussed, resulting in a position, on the part of the council committee, to report back favorably to the immediate construction and replacing of tower and clock, on a plan that would not be surpassed by any city in the Union. The new clock will have illuminated dials, to accommodate the people at night, and will be placed in a tower, built from the ground especially for it, a hundred feet in height from base to summit.
