The Democratic Herald – Sept. 5, 1865

ANOTHER LANDMARK GONE – The old land marks of the city have to make way for capital, which moves mountains from their foundations. The work of tearing down the old building corner of Main and Fifth Streets, commenced yesterday, to make way for a new brick building, to be erected and used by the “State National Bank.” The old “Farmers Home” could tell a history filling volumes, had it the power of speech. The building was erected in 1834, and has been used as a boarding house, grocery, and saloon, with several remolding’s.

As a business corner, there is none better in the city, and as there always has more or less money changed hands there, it will continue to be when the new building is erected, one of the important corners in the business and financial community.
