ROBS FARMER
DURING PARADE
~
JOHN REIS OF HOLY CROSS IS THE
VICTIM OF A DARING
CROOK
~
John Reis, a farmer from Holy Cross, was robbed by a daring crook while watching the circus parade at Clay and Seventh Streets shortly before noon. Real was standing in a crowd when he felt a hand in his pocket. He attempted to grab the thief, but the latter got away and ran down into the alley between White and Clay and turned southward. Officer Carter, who was close to Reis, was notified and gave chase. He ran into the American house with the officer in close pursuit. He was taken into the hotel.

Mr. Reis reported that there was $30.00 in his pocketbook which was nipped. When searched neither the money nor the pocketbook was found on the prisoner. The sum of $11.00 was found on him, but this he claimed was his own money. The fellow gave his name as Charley Duncan. He was a stranger in the city. He was arraigned before Justice Glab this afternoon and plead not guilty. The justice continued the case until 2 o’clock Monday afternoon. In default of $500 bonds was remanded to jail.

Reis identified the man as the one who robbed him.
