Barrett, Michael F. (Born Taylor Township, Jackson County, IA, Jan. 19, 1851 -Died Cascade, IA, Aug. 12, 1917). Councilman and horse breeder. Barrett served on the Cascade City Council when the waterworks system was installed, but never sought other elective office. Associated for many years with Michael Grace of Butler Township in importing and breeding horses, Barrett came to Cascade in 1884 representing the partnership. In 1891, he was one of the principal promoters of the Dubuque County Fair and Driving Park Association. When Barrett's work in developing a standard breed stock was unsuccessful due to declining public interest in harness racing, he turned his attention to the retail liquor business. he also raised some of the finest draft horses in the country.
