Escape From Death Thursday Night
~
Late Thursday night, W. J. McCauley, employed as a switchman in the Illinois Central yards, had a narrow escape from death: He was riding on a lumber car, and when near a frog the car jumped the track and fell over. McCauley jumped but lost his footing an alighted on his hip, which was severely bruised, causing intense pain. He was unable to rise, and was assisted into a carriage and removed to his home on Grandview Avenue. A surgeon examined the wound, but found no serious injury.
