Deceased Name: Eric J. Welter: Bankston man dies in boating accident
The Dubuque County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a Bankston, Iowa, man whose body was pulled from a rural pond after a reported boating accident early Sunday.

Eric J. Welter, 24, was reportedly in a paddle boat with Corrine Schmitt, 28, of Holy Cross, on a pond on the Dan Gotto property on Girl Scout Road, according to a release from the Sheriff's Department. The boat capsized.
Welter did not surface. Schmitt was able to get to shore and call 911. At approximately 3:32 a.m., deputies and members of the Epworth, Cascade, Sherrill and Dubuque fire departments responded. The body was found at approximately
7:37 a.m., following a dragging operation.
