HACKETT

I am looking for death information for John Hackett, born about 1840 in New York, husband of Adaline Ring, and father of John S. Hackett.

He is identified on the 1880 US Federal census as a border of Celia (Pryor) Ring of Center Grove.

On the 1885 Iowa State Census he is identified as the husband of Adaline (Ring) Hackett with a newborn son John S. Hackett living in Center Grove.

Adaline had been previously married to Alexander McCutchin (d. 1874) and had at least one child with him (George).

On the 1900 US Federal census, Adaline is married to John Johnson of Center Grove (marriage 1887) and living with son John S. Hackett.

It seems likely that John Hackett died in or near Center Grove, Dickenson County IA between 1885 and 1887 when Adaline married John Johnson. Their marriage appears to have been a short one. Or possibly John and Adaline were divorced. I assume they were married since Adaline is identified with the last name Hackett on the 1885 census.

Is there a death record for John Hackett or any other information? Besides his death information I am interested on any information related to the parents of John Hackett in NY.

He is listed on both the 1880 and 1885 census as a saloon owner in the area. The obituary (found on this site) for John S. Hackett does not mention either of his parents. Any information would be appreciated.

John S. Hackett is my great grandfather.
