The following obituary is provided by Donna Young from an unknown newspaper publication.

"Emma Ash. Services for Emma Maude Ash, 91, Spirit Lake, were 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 1989, at the United Methodist Church, Spirit Lake. Rev. Henrietta Klarenbeck officiated. Music was provided by Margery Rhodes, organist and Dan and Elwin Tritle sang "Great is Thy Faithfulness" and "Blessed Assurance." The congregation sang "He Lives."

Pallbearers were Jack Bedel, Dean Hummel, Don Lindsey, Marvin Miller, Wayne Northey and Chuck Peters.

Mrs. Ash died Thursday, July 6, at the Hilltop Care Center, Spirit Lake. She was born Dec. 6, 1897 at Spirit Lake to Willis Cadwell and Olive Clara (Wheeler) Drummond.

She graduated from Spirit Lake High School, Spirit Lake, and Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. She married Archer Bert Ash at Spirit Lake May 31, 1931. She taught school at Buffalo Center and three years in Spirit Lake fifth grade and nine years in Spirit Lake Junior High. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was confirmed in May, 1910 at Spirit Lake.

She was a member of Eastern Star, P.E.O., D.A.R., Cemetery Society, United Methodist Women's Circles and Rural Lights Club.

Survivors include one sister, Claribel Kauglarich; and two brothers, Charles Drummond, Frederick, Md., and Wesley Drummond, Long Beach, Calif.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake. Turner Funeral Home, Spirit Lake, was in charge of arrangements."
