June 8, 1906DIED. -- BAXTER. At his home in this place last Sunday morning, Henry Baxter, who was one of the pioneers of this county. He passed quietly away, after years of suffering. The cause of his illness had never been quite determined, consequently a post mortem was held and it was determined that there was a cancer in the stomach. The deceased was 67 years old. He moved to Spirit Lake from Michigan in 1872, He was in business at Spirit Lake at different times, once being proprietor of the old Baxter House. He also owned the Willow Spring farm in the early days. He enlisted at the breaking out of the civil war and was honorably discharged in July 1862, owing to general disability. He leaves a wife, who has been all that could be asked for as faithful companion and nurse.
