Last Rite For Herb Swanson Here Wednesday

Last rites, with full military honors, were held for Herbert G. Swanson, 60, at Union Memorial church Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Joseph H. Castle officiated at the services and arrangements were made by Leysons. A military escort of Milford Post No. 384 American Legion was in charge of Glenn Hemphill, post commander, and they formed an honor guard both at the church and at the Milford cemetery, where interment was made. Taps were sounded by Bill Castle at the close of the commitment service. Leonard Branstetter, accompanied by Mrs. Hubert Steinberg, sang "The Lord's Prayer" and Rock of Ages." Flowers were arranged by Mrs. Frank Hemphill, Mrs. Prank Fellows, Mrs. Howard Boers and Mrs. W. W. Bean. Pall bearers for the service were Dwight Hemphill, Lorraine Warburton, Gene Hemphill, Chester Sheley, Merle Branstetter and Roy Wittrock. Honorary pall bearers were Frank Hemphill, Frank Warburton, Homer Naudain, Alvin Trabert, Myron Moeller and Harold Jones.

Mr. Swanson died at a hospital in Rochester, Minn., on May 3, after two weeks illness following surgery performed at the Spencer hospital on April 21. Funeral services were held on his 61st birthday anniversary.

Herbert George Swanson, son of Gust and Ida Andrews Swanson, was born at Pomeroy, Iowa, May 7, 1891. After the death of his mother in 1898, he and his twin brother, Albert, made their home with their father in and around Lake Park and Milford. On July 22, 1918, he enlistedin the service of his country in World War I and was sent overseas Aug. 28 of the same year. He served with the 35th infantry division in France, and following his honorable discharge from the army on July 20, 1919, he returned to Milford to live.

He was married to Pearl C Titterington December 6, 1944 at Fort Scott, Kansas, and they returned to Milford, making their home in Old Town, where they have resided ever since.

Surviving Mr. Swanson are his widow, Pearl, two step-daughters, Mildred (Mrs. Ralph Watson) of San Bernardino, Calif., and Dorothy (Mrs. Glen Waldron) of Fort Dodge; two step-sons, Lyle Titterington of Sacramento, Calif., and Robert Titterington of Carroll; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters and one brother. The twin sisters, Mrs. Boone Bryant and Mrs. Bertram McKee, both of Stockton, Calif., were born on the same date as Herbert and his twin brother, Albert, who preceded him in death. The other sisters are Mrs. Esther Miller of Los Angeles and Mrs. Frank Gant of Des Moines, and the surviving brother is Leo Swanson of Los Angeles. The daughters and sons and Mrs. Gant were present for the services
