Henry E. Barber, aged 64 years,
6 months and 22 days.Henry Barber was born at West Buffalo. Union County, Pa., March 12, 1829 At an early age he removed with his parents to Illinois. In 1848 he was married to Lucinda Hines at Freeport. He enlisted in Co. M., 8th Illinois Cav., Dec. 3, 3863,. and was honorably discharged jn July, 1865. He came to Iowa in ‘68, and in '70 took up a claim in Clay county. He has since lived in Clay and Dickinson counties. Mr. Barber lost his health while in the army. For many years he has suffered. For almost two years he has been unable to do manual labor. The many years that have passed since the time when he went to the front have been spent in pain. He gave not
only the years of army service, but his whole life for his native land, he truly suffered and died for his country.The funeral services were held in the Congregational church, Milford, Sunday, Rev. A. L. Weatherly, officiating clergyman, under the auspices of Wallar Post, G. A. R., of which deceased
was a member, and was attended by a large concourse of people. Winget Post, of Spirit Lake, and Annett Post of Spencer were each represented by several members. All that was mortal of Henry Barber was consigned to earth in the cemetery on the hill, south of Milford, by the side of his children gone before, where the last side rites of the order were, duly observed by his surviving comrades.
