The following was taken from an unknown newspaper clipping: "Ward E. Peterson. Ward Edward Peterson, son of Truman C. and Eleanor Quaife Peterson, was born in Chickasaw county, Iowa on June 28, 1878 and passed away at the Spirit Lake hospital at the age of 73 years, 4 months, 17 days on Nov. 15, 1951 after a lingering illness of bronchial asthma and heart trouble. He was the youngest of a family of nine, all preceding him in death except one brother, Truman C. Peterson of Fargo, N. D. As a small boy he came with his parents in a covered wagon and settled in southeastern Dickinson county. He received his education in the country schools. He was united in marriage July 31, 1902 to June Klein of Spirit Lake, who preceded him in death July 10, 1950. They farmed east of Spirit Lake until his health failed and they moved to town. He is survived by his two sons, Elmer and Harold; one daughter Elsie (Mrs. Lester Kuhse) all of Spirit Lake; three grandchildren, Robert Peterson, Donna Kelley and Gary Wayne Peterson; and one great-grandchild, Sandra Jo Kelley."

Ward Peterson Dies Thursday at Hospital; Funeral Held Nov. 17

Funeral services for Ward Peterson, 73, who died Thursday at Marcus Snyder Memorial hospital were held Saturday afternoon from the Methodist church with Rev. Robert B. Crocker officiating.

Mr. Peterson had been a resident of Dickinson county for 62 years, coming from Chickasaw county with his parents in a covered wagon when nine years old. He had farmed east of town until his health failed.

Music was furnished at the funeral by Mrs. Iva Slagle. Interment, with Harpole Funeral Home in charge, was in Lakeview cemetery. Acting pallbearers were Fritz Jacobs, Harry Loers, Ed Strube, A. B. Ash, Alfred Mayer and V. R. Tritle.

Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his wife, the former June Klein, whom he married July 31, 1902. Surviving him are two sons, Elmer and Harold, one daughter Mrs. Lester (Elsie) Kuhse, all of Spirit Lake; three grandchildren, Robert Peterson, Donna Peterson, Kelley and Gary Wayne Peterson; and one great grandchild, Sandra Jo Kelley.
