Services will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow in the First Church of Weymouth for Plumer Pope, 83, of North Weymouth. He died Sunday in St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton.
He was the former owner of Plumer Pope and Son Bottled Gas Co. in Weymouth, and he retired in 1978 as a salesman for the Alvin Hollis Co., a fuel oil firm in Weymouth.
Mr. Pope was born in Lake Park, Iowa, and had lived in Weymouth for the last 40 years. He had served as a member of the Weymouth Housing Authority and was a Weymouth town meeting member for 30 years.
He was a past president and honorary member of the Weymouth Kiwanis Club, a member of the Weymouth Senior Citizens Club and a past president of the Herring Run Assn.
He leaves his wife, Maebelle (Lovell); a daughter, Jean A. Glover of Wayland; two stepsons, E. Clifford Gaffney of Wareham and James A. Gaffney of Martha's Vineyard; a stepdaughter, Mary Jane McArthur of Weymouth; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Lynwood Cemetery, Weston.
