death of young ancestor

EDDY OR EDDIE OR EDWARD ELLERHOFF SOME RELATIVES HAVE CALLED HIM HEINRICH EDDY ELLERHOFF

Eddy was born in Des Moines Co in 1879 to Frederick and Katherine Ellerhoff. He is listed in the 1880 and 1885 census roles. Family lore relates that he died of heat exhaustion while carrying water to farmers when he was a child. He might have died in 1888 and, as family thinks, he might be buried in Middletown cemetery and connected to the only unreadable stone in that cemetery. However, interested descendants can discover no proof of his death; the Des Moines County courthouse has not record either. Ancestry. com reports that he is buried in Middletown cemetery but, other than stories linked to this unreadable stone, there are no early Ellerhoffs buried there. All of his siblings are buried in other graveyards. Eddy would have been uncle to my father-in-law (Milton Ellerhoff). Thank you for your assistance in solving this mystery.
