Message Board Post:

According to her obituary, 2 of her children with Mr. Williams were living at the time Nettie passed away:

On the 4th inst occurred the death of Mrs. Nettie Zion, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Shelladay, 4 miles northeast of New London. Mrs. Zion was just recovering from a severe spell of sickness which had confined her to her bed for several weeks, when she was again stricken down, this time with a stroke of paralysis. In this, her last illness, she was unable to speak during the entire time, covering a space of more than 4 months, and a great portion of that time could not turn herself in bed. The funeral took place at the church at Pleasant Grove yesterday, and the remains laid to rest by the side of her last husband in the cemetery at that place. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Carter, of the C. P. church, of which she was also a member. She was born in Buckingham county, Va., Aug. 27th 1805. Was married to Wm. Williams, Aug. 1823, who died in 1833. Married again in July 1836 to Jacob Zion, who died Sept. 1869. Her first marriage was blessed with si!
x children, two of whom are yet alive, and three by her second, one of whom survives his mother.
---
This is what I have for Jacob and Nettie census-wise:

Jacob is listed in the 1840 Federal Census Index for Des Moines Co., Iowa: Age ranges - 11200001-122001

and in the 1850 Federal Census, Mont Rose Township, Lee County, Iowa with his wife, and one of her children - Mary Jane (age 16 born Indiana) and his other children with Nettie (I have a copy of this one if you want it).

Too bad the obituary didn't list which two children so you'd know who the other one was besides Mary. Course this obituary also states that Mr. Williams died in 1833, but the Des Moines County Iowa Queries shows it as 1836.

I don't have any more info at this point.... I'm researching the ZION line. Jacob, Nettie's second husband, was my ggg-grandfather (thru his first marriage to Catherine Fleenor).

Do you have a way to look for census info, i.e. Ancestry.com? I just resubbed to them and would be happy to look around for your WILLIAMS if you like. Might find me some more ZION's that way too, you never know.... email me, if so.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

I am doing research on my mother's family.

BRUMM, Charles (Carl)(my great-great grandfather) born about 1816 in Sternenfels, Oberamt Maulbron, Wurttemberg. He died Oct 1870 in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa. He is buried in Saint Paul Cemetery, Benton Township, Des Moines County, Iowa. His nickname was Carl. It is unknown who his father or mother was. He had a brother Daniel, may have been more siblings, but this is unknown. He married Julia OSWALT, in 1844 in Berlin, Germany (?) She was born in 1823 in Sternenfels, Oberamt Maulbron, Wurttemberg.

They began their family in Carlsberg, which is close to Baden, but still in what was the county/province of Wurttemberg. In Wurttemberg he worked as a freighter, "hauling provisions and supplies from Carlsbad to Stuttgart, and also carried the mail, driving sometimes as many as 16 (?) horses at a time."

They immigrated in October 1853, to USA. Docked in New Orleans, Louisiana. Took the ship Heidelberg from Le Havre, France, and arrived in New Orleans on Dec 18, 1853. His brother Daniel and his family came on board the same ship.

Charles and Julia's children were:

1. Jacob BRUMM born 1844 in Sternenfels, Oberamt Maulbron, Wurttemberg. Died before 1960, Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa. Not known if he ever married.

All children were born in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa. 3. Frederika BRUMM born 1848 in Sternenfels, Oberamt Maulbron, Wurttemberg. No record of her after 1860 Iowa Census, she was 12 years old, and living with parents. Not with family in 1870 Iowa Census. Not known if she married or had died.

I am searching for any records of Joseph Corman's death in July 11, 1880 in
Burlington. I was born and raised in Burlington, Born Dec 21, 1928 and when I
became 72 years old I found out my mother was born out of wed lock. This
obviously perked my interest in genealogy. I stil haven't found the elusive
blood line grandfather, my mothers father, but I am trying to assemble
information on the Corman side of the family. I know that Joseph was born in
PA. married a "Mary" and had four children in PA. before coming to Iowa about
1851. They show in the 1856 census. What I need is a clue to Joseph's
parents. It might be in a death certifiace or record of somekind. ( I found
his grave in the Shiloh cemetary last year in the Ordnance Plant area.) The
question is how can I find this type of data, Thanks Dick Corman Malibu,

April 28, 2002
My family Andrew Peter Carlson and his family first came to the USA from possibly Marback or Asby Sweden in about 1852 locating near Princeton, Illinois.

There possibly were brothers or sisters that came with Anna and Andrew.

One such sister may have been a Bertha Carlson who married a Moberg.

Then they came to Des Moines County, Iowa locating in Union Township near the town of Burlington by the year 1854 - the census spells the name Carlson at this time Corrolson.

Andrew Peter Carlson and his wife Anna Regina Carlson had 6 children.

The only child that was not born in Des Moines County, Iowa was the oldest child John Andrew
Carlson he was born in or near Princeton, Illinois.

The names of the rest of the children were Henry Alexander, David W. Sophia, Amy and one
daughters name that keeps changing through the years which may be Caroline, Emma or Alma.

John Andrew Carlson married Augusta Burgeson daughter of Johan and Britta Burgeson on November 20, 1877.

Is there anyone out there that has a tie to this family.
If so please contact

Vesta Cordelia b: 18 JUL 1844 in Burlington,

Flavia E b: 6 AUG 1848 in Burlington,

Des Moines County, IA
I have a story regarding him traveling down the Allegheny River from Olean, New York in 1837 to the Ohio River and then to Cincinnati with a load of lumber, and one about his murder in Muscatine, IA in 1863, which I would love to share. He was also said to have been the first sheriff of Burlington, Des Moines Co, IA. Also have more on Silas and Flavia's children, but have not been able to locate his or her parents names. Has anyone out there run into either of these names. If so, I would love to hear from you.

John JEFFERSON, born 3 Jan 1804, VA married Ruth ??? 1827-1828 in WV. Moved to Des Moines Co Iowa ca 1853. John died 11 April 1872, Des Moines Co Iowa. Ruth died before 1850 per Marshall Co WV 1850 census. William JEFFERSON, son of John and Ruth, born 1834 Marshall Co WV, moved to Des Moines Co with father and siblings in 1853, went back to WV to serve with Company G 17th Reg. of WV Volunteers. Returned to Iowa in 1866-67 with wife, Pheobe MEDLEY, and lived in Des Moines Co until ca 1885 when he moved to Nebraska. John and Ruth also had 2 daughters, Martha married Mr TERHENE and Lavina married John Barkely DAWSON. Would like to exchange information with anyone doing research on any of these lines.

Looking for the family of William H. HUPP & Ruth Louisa NUNN who moved from
Belmont Co., OH to Burlington, IA in about 1864. It looks like the couple
migrated with William's parents, William HUPP & Nancy HOGAN or HAGAN. From
there William & Ruth moved to Fulton Co., IL and it appears that William &
Nancy moved Louisa Co., IA.

Any help on this family would be very much appreciated.

The surnames I am researching are CLENDENIN / PALMER / STARR / GILBERT

My Great Grandmother Elizabeth CLENDENIN and her sister Helen lived with
their Aunt Emma and Uncle Luke PALMER at, I believe was his maternal home
located at 303 S. 6th St. Burlington, Iowa in 1888 - 1892. We have a photo
of this old wonderful looking home taken in 1930, does anyone know if it
still exists? The girls attended South Hill School and we have a class
photo
with the names listed of 19 of the students and principal. (I will share
this neat old photo.) I would like to find any info on the PALMER family of
Burlington. After Emma's death in 1892, Luke married Marion STARR, who
died
in 1898. He then married in 1900 a Lydia Lewis GILBERT to whom his only
child was born, Mary Elizabeth PALMER in 1901. We have a photo of proud
Luke
and little Mary. I believe Luke PALMER was an attorney. Any help on any of
these surnames would be appreciated.

Thank you, Linda Mesinar (Nevada)
