Leola Kay (Charbonneaux) Ulrich

Fort Myers, FL - Leola Kay (Charbonneaux) Ulrich passed away peacefully in her home on March 31st, 2021.

Leola was born on April 4th, 1939 in Kingston, Iowa. She was the daughter of Franz E. (Joy) Charbonneaux and Gladys L. (Walker, Charbonneaux) Moneysmith.

Leola, Lee, Aunt Katie, Grandma, Lalee, Mom will always be remembered as a champion for the underdogs and the underserved everywhere. Her caregiving career began when she followed her big sister, Vonnie, into nursing school at Mercy Hospital in Burlington, Iowa. Aunt Vonnie has always been her biggest hero and best friend, although Lee liked to torment her on most days. She showed us how to fight for equality, stand up against social injustice and to have a compassionate heart for those in need. She was always the life of the party, and usually the cook for it, too. Watch out Heaven, here she comes! She will be forever loved, always missed, and never forgotten.

A very special THANK YOU to the family of Robin Kelp, especially to Lee's grandson Adam Ulrich. We will be forever grateful to you for being her port in the storm and for helping her to live her best life.

Lee is survived by her sister, Yvonne (Charbonneaux) Gray, her step-sister Judy Waterman, her daughters Lisa Steinke and Laura Taylor, 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Joyce (Charbonneaux) Butler, her brother Franz E. Charbonneaux, Jr., her sons, Jon Ulrich, Joe Ulrich, Benjamin Ulrich, Jr. and her granddaughter, Ashley Ulrich.

To honor Lee, her family will hold a celebration on the banks of the Mississippi River in Burlington, Iowa later this year.
