Mildred Bence

Mildred Lucille Bence, 75, of Brighton, died Friday, Aug. 29, 1986, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. She had been in failing health the past two years.

Born May 18, 1911, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Walter and Maude Doyle Sourwine. She married Roy E. Bence Aug. 5, 1929, in Monmouth, Ill. He died March 27, 1981.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Maquoketa, and had lived in Brighton since 1974. She had worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for many years.

Surviving are two daughters, Marveline Wilson, Brighton, and Sharon Beller, Maquoketa; one brother , Melvin Sourwine, Burlington; one sister, Pearl Briner, Pleasant HIll, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Bence were held today at the Gould Funeral Home, Brighton, with the Rev. Joan Ayers officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery, northwest of Brighton.

A general memorial memorial has been established.
