Robert "Bob" Metzger

Robert “Bob” W. Metzger, age 68, died Monday, February 25, 2019 at his home in Yarmouth.

The son of Helen (Gittings) Metzger, he was born on March 4, 1950 in Mt. Pleasant. On October 22, 1982 he married Flora Luttenegger in Burlington, IA.

He was a 1968 graduate of Winfield Mt. Union and served in the Navy with an honorable discharge during the Vietnam War. Bob was the owner/operator of Metzger Trucking Company. He was a lifetime member of OOIDA Trucking, Big Creek Tractor Association, Harley Owners Group Association, and New London VFW.

Bob enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycles, his antique tractors, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved his many dogs throughout the years. He was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye and Iowa State fan.

Survivors include his wife Flora, three daughters Stacy (Mike) Knapp of Raritan, Illinois, Nikki (Brandon Dixon) Jackson of Burlington, and Becky (Travis) Wright of Morning Sun, nine grandchildren, one great grandson, and one half brother Roger (Evelyn) Metzger of Plattsburg, New York.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

The funeral service for Bob will be held on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Yarmouth Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Duffy officiating at 11:00 AM with military services following. Cremation will follow the funeral service with inurnment at a later date in Trinity Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1:00 – 5:00 on Sunday March the 3rd at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield. Family will receive friends from 3:00 – 5:00 at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established for Great River Hospice and the New London VFW.
