Earl Leslie Smith, 76 of Burlington, formerly of Pleasant Grove died Thursday 7 Aug. 1986, at the Danville Community Home. Born 27 Sept. 1909, at Mt. Union, he was the son of John and Susan Druelard Smith. He married Elsie Dearmin 14 April 1930, at Fairfield. He had been a farmer and had worked for Des Moines County for 25 years. Surviving are his wife, Elsie; three daughters, Velma Upton, West Burlington, Veda Burkey, Danville, and Evelyn Vance, Burlington; two sons, Ralph, Burlington, and John, Mediapolis; three sisters, Nellie Fischer, Pleasant Grove, Eva Kemery, Hereford, AZ, and Rose Andrews, Burlington; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Services were Monday, 11 Aug. 1986, at Elliott Chapel, New London, with the Rev. Larry Laurence officiating, with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery
