Fred W. Bakerink

Fred W. Bakerink Sr., age 77 of Mediapolis, died Saturday July 7, 2018 at Great River Medical Center.

The son of Fred and Helen (Henderson) Bakerink, he was born January 7, 1941 east of Newport. On August 2, 1958 he married Lila Brockway at Mediapolis.

He attended Mediapolis School. He worked as a welder for GE in Burlington for over 36 years. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the Moose Lodge, and motorcycle and snowmobile clubs. He enjoyed his motorcycle, riding in his side by side, and his great grandchildren. He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include: his wife of Mediapolis; one son Fred (Rhonda) Bakerink Jr .of Burlington; one daughter Sandra (Rick) Wirt of Burlington; two grandchildren and two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Oberman of Burlington and Christine Henderson of Mediapolis; one brother Kirk Henderson of California. He was preceded in death by his parents and step father.

Open visitation will be Wednesday July 11, 2018 from 3-7:00 p.m. at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis. Cremation will be accorded and a graveside service will be Saturday July 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kossuth Cemetery, Cathy Eaton officiating.

A general memorial has been established.
