Funeral services for Dr. George W. Wilkinson, 35 year old former Burlington physician who died unexpectedly of a hemorrhage Wednesday morning in University hospitals, Iowa City, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Johnson funeral home, Ottumwa.
Conducting the services will be Dr. Marvin H. Lundeen of First Lutheran church in Ottumwa. He will be assisted by Rev. Paul Calhoun, pastor of Burlington's First Presbyterian church.
Wilkinson, who moved to Iowa City last September had been in partnership in Burlington with Dr. Robert D. Rowley. Wilkinson was under treatment in Iowa City and also a resident physician in anesthesiology there.
He was born July 15, 1916 at Laurel. Graduating from high school in 1934, he attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls 2 years and finished undergraduate studies at the University of Iowa. Wilkinson was graduating from the university's medical college in 1940 and then had an internship and residency at Augustana hospital in Chicago until joining the Army's medical corps. He served as Captain in the Air Force.
After discharge from the service Wilkinson returned to Augustana hospital where he was a resident in surgery about 18 months. Then in partnership with Rowley, he opened offices in Bellevue and came to Burlington in 1948 where he spent the major part of his time in the practice of medicine.
The physician was married June 26, 1943 to the former Doris Adine Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albin G. Anderson, Ottumwa.
He was a member of the Des Moines County Medical society, American Academy of General Practitioners and Burlington Kiwanis club.
Surviving are his widow; 2 children, George Robert,5 and Margaret Ann,3; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. L.J. Wilkinson,Laurel and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Gourley, Laurel.
Burial also will be in Ottumwa. Pallbearers will be Dr. Rowley, Robert E. Holstein, Norton Hardin, Robert Camp, and Stephen Beckford, all of Burlington, and Dan Woods, State Center.
