Word has been received at the death at Albany, Ore. of Miss Amelia Fisher, who was probably the first school teacher in Des Moines County, having taught in Union Township in 1829. In a few years she would have passed the century mark. The deceased was born in Morrisville, N. Y., on July 6, 1803. She crossed the plains to Oregon in an ox-team wagon in 1851.
