George Francis Blake was born near Northfield, about eight miles northeast of Mediapolis, Iowa, on January 26th, 1846, and died at his home in Mediapolis, Iowa, on Sunday afternoon, January 2, 1921, aged 74 years, 11 months, and 17 days. On October 20th, 1881, he was united in holy marriage by the Rev.J. A. Martyn to Addie J. Heizer, and to this union of hearts was born four children, all of whom are living and were here when the spirit returned to God who gave it.
For fifty one years he was a member of the Presbyterian church, first uniting with the church at Kossuth and transferring his membership to Mediapolis in the year 1894. He held the office of deacon at Kossuth and also at Mediapolis, and was elected to the eldership of the church in 1917, which office he held at his death. He was very much interested in the work of the church at home and abroad, but especially of his home church, willingly giving of time and treasure toward its support.
Among the cherished characteristics of his spiritual life are faithfulness to divine worship and punctual attendance in the Bible School, and the community is ready to hear testimony to his earnest, faithful, Christian life. He was a meek and quiet spirit which in the sight of God is of great service. Our country, our civilization, the church, the community are today sorely in need of men of his type, intensely loyal to God and His word and service, and when it seems such men are scarce, may we all unite in prayer to God that someone else may fill the vacancy he has left in this vineyard of our Lord. "He being dead and yet speaketh".From the home and the friendship while there has gone, but not forgotten, one that was good and true, loyal and sincere, without partiality or hypocrisy. may the influence of his life inspire us to walk with God in the path that shineth _____________. He is survived by his wife and four daughters: Mrs. Mary E. McCray, of Panhandle, Texas; Mrs. Nellie Faris and Mrs. Dell Creighton, of Mediapolis; and Mrs. Dorothy McClure, of Hopkinton, Iowa; one brother, H. S. Blake of this place, and eight grandchildren, all of whom we commend to the care of the heavenly Father that they may be kept and comforted by His Almighty power and love.
The funeral service was conducted at the Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. Richard Rodgers, assisted by Rev.___________.
