DEATH OF MRS. GRIMES

One of Burlington's Pioneer Women Expires in Washington.

News of the death of Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Grimes, widow of the late Senator James W. Grimes, reached this city yesterday evening, from Washington, D. C., where the aged lady breathed her last after a brief illness, at the family residence. Her daughter, Mrs. Col. Higbee, of this city, was at her bedside during the last hours of her life, having been called to Washington by her mother's illness some weeks ago.

Sarah Elizabeth Grimes was one of Burlington's pioneer women, and her life, as that of her husband, has been woven inseparably into the history of this city. Her maiden name was Neally, and she was married in Burlington to the late Senator James Grimes in 1846. Her home for a number of years has been in Washington, where during her husband's lifetime and public career much of her time was spent.

The remains will, in all probability, be brought to Burlington for interment.
