Last fall Mrs. P.F. Unterkircher was afflicted with rheumatism, which continued all winter, but she was much better during the spring and the early part of the summer. Some time ago she suffered from asthma, and for the past few weeks, notwithstanding the best medical attention and nursing of her family, it was known that the end was near and her death was expected at any time.

She died at half-past 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon, September 26, 1888, surrounded by her sorrowing family, and it was a calm and peaceful end to a life which had been happy, and which had been spent in good deeds and thoughtful actions to all by whom she was surrounded. She lived a faithful, earnest Christian life, and passed to her eternal rest confident of her reward.

Her maiden name was Phoebe Jhons, and she was born in Appenheim, Hessen, Germany, December 27, 1836. She came to this country when five years of age with her parents, who located at Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her parents died four years later, their deaths occurring eleven months apart. Two brothers, Phillip and Jacob Jhons, both of whom are farmers at Sherwood, Ohio, and two sisters, Mrs. F. Hartwick, of West Grove, Iowa, and Mrs. C. Baker, of Manchester, Ohio, are the surviving members of her father’s family.

She was married at Clinton, Michigan, October 14, 1855, to P.F. Unterkircher, and they removed to Augusta, in this County in 1859. They lived there four years and then came to Burlington. Eight children, Fred L., George L., Charles, Horace, Mrs. Theo. Blaul, Ida, Nellie, and Blanche, with their father mourn the loss of the loving wife and mother. Another son, Albert, died some time ago. Her sister, Mrs. Hartwick, has been with her for the past three weeks, and it was the intention of Mrs. Unterkircher, if she recovered, to make this sister a visitor at her home.

The funeral will be held at half-past two o’clock Saturday afternoon from the family residence at 313 Washington Street.
