DEATH OF MRS. NIXON

Her Demise Sunday a Grievous Blow to Husband and Friends.

On Sunday morning, at 8 o'clock, Harriet Lucy Wilcox, wife of Dr. S. E. Nixon, died at her home on Maple street. Her last illness was a brief one, but marked by great physical suffering and pain, which she bore with remarkable patience, courage and fortitude. Mrs. Nixon suffered in the same way about five years ago, an abscess having formed upon the liver, and it was hoped that the last attack, being in many ways less malignant would, be successfully overcome. It is this that makes the shock all the more terrible and difficult of realization by the family of the deceased and her wide circle of friends.

Mrs. Nixon was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Wilcox of this city. She was born November 9, 1855, near Burlington and was raised and received her education here. She married Christmas day 1878, Dr. S. E. Nixon. She was the mother of one child that died in infancy five years ago. The loss of this child was a blow from which she never recovered. To the end of her life her grief was so keen and acute as to impair her health and rob her of much of the joy of living. Only in the past year had she seemed to recover he brightness and cheerfulness of disposition. The deceased was a member of the First M. E. church and also of the P. E. O. society. She was a loving wife and true woman, possessed of every Christian virtue. She is survived, besides the bereaved husband, by her father and mother, two sisters, Mrs. Maria Wilcox Hall, of Penryn, California, and Mary Wilcox, of this city, and one brother, Mr. Franklin Wilcox, Jr., of Gladstone, Illinois.

The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence.
